Index 01 — what we handle

Six kinds of job,
priced the same way

Everything below starts with a survey visit and a written scope. If a job turns out to be outside what we do well, we will say so at the survey rather than take it on.

01

Full & partial rewires

5–9 working days, occupied or empty

New circuits from the board out, chased or surface-run depending on the finish you want. We work room by room so the property keeps power overnight, and we hand back a labelled board with a circuit schedule.

  • Circuit schedule
  • Making good to plaster
  • Phased by room
02

Consumer unit upgrades

Usually one day, power off 3–5 hours

Replacing an old fuse box or split-load board with an RCBO unit so a single fault no longer takes out half the house. Every existing circuit is tested before reconnection — if something fails, we tell you before the board goes back on.

  • Per-circuit RCBO
  • Pre-test of every circuit
  • Surge protection option
03

EV charge points

Half a day once the supply is confirmed

Survey first: we check the main fuse rating, earthing arrangement and cable route before quoting, because those three things decide whether load management is needed. Cable is clipped and capped, not draped.

  • Load assessment
  • Earthing check
  • Tethered or socket
04

Lighting design & installation

Scoped per room, fitted in one or two visits

Layered lighting for kitchens, stairs and living rooms — circuit layout, switching plan and dimmer compatibility worked out on paper before anything is cut. We will tell you which fittings dim badly rather than fit them and shrug.

  • Switching plan
  • Dimmer matching
  • Colour temperature
05

Inspection & certification

2–4 hours for a typical three-bedroom home

Periodic inspection reports for owners, landlords and small premises. You get a plain-English summary alongside the formal report, with anything coded for action separated from anything merely noted.

  • Landlord reports
  • Plain-English summary
  • Remedial quote included
06

Fault finding

Booked in two-hour diagnostic blocks

Tripping circuits, intermittent lights, a breaker that will not stay in. We isolate and test rather than guess-replace, and the diagnostic time is credited against the repair if we carry it out on the same visit.

  • Insulation resistance
  • Circuit isolation
  • Written findings

Index 02 — how a job runs

From first message
to certificate

The same four steps for every job, whether it is one socket or a whole rewire.

  1. Step 01

    Message & call back

Send the form at the bottom of this page with a rough description. We call back within one working day to ask the two or three questions that decide whether a survey is needed at all.

    No charge
  2. Step 02

    Survey & written scope

We look at the board, the earthing arrangement and the cable routes, then write a scope listing the circuits affected, the making-good included, and anything we would leave alone.

    Scope in 2 working days
  3. Step 03

    Booked dates & the works

You get fixed dates, a daily start time and a named electrician. Dust sheets down, floors lifted carefully, and the property left safe and powered at the end of each day.

    Dates held for 14 days
  4. Step 04

    Test, label, hand over

Every circuit is tested and recorded, the board is labelled, and you get the certificate plus a short walk-through of what changed and where the isolators are.

    Paperwork within 5 days

Index 03 — standards & paperwork

What gets tested
and what you keep

Electrical work is mostly invisible once the plaster is back on, so the paperwork is the part you actually own. Here is what is measured and what lands in your inbox.

Continuity
Protective conductors and ring final circuits measured end to end, so a broken earth or a bridged ring is found before the board is energised.
Recorded per circuit
Insulation resistance
Each circuit tested between live conductors and earth. Old rubber or fabric-sheathed cable usually shows up here first.
Recorded per circuit
Earth fault loop
Loop impedance checked at the origin and at the furthest point, confirming the protective device will actually operate in time under fault conditions.
Origin + far point
RCD / RCBO operation
Trip times measured on every residual current device, including the test button check you can repeat yourself every few months.
Trip time in ms
Certificate issued
Installation Certificate for new circuits, Minor Works Certificate for alterations, or a Condition Report for an inspection — issued in your name, not the builder's.
PDF + paper copy
Board schedule
A printed circuit schedule inside the board cover, plus a photograph of the finished board sent with the certificate for your records.
Fitted on the day

Notifiable work is registered with building control on your behalf as part of the job — you do not need to arrange anything separately, and the notification reference is included with the certificate.

Index 04 — before you book

Questions worth
asking us first

How long will the power actually be off?

For a consumer unit change, expect three to five hours with the supply off, usually mid-morning to mid-afternoon. For a rewire we work circuit by circuit, so you normally keep lights and at least one socket circuit live overnight. We confirm the exact isolation windows at the survey so you can plan around freezers, home working and medical equipment.

Our wiring is old — does that mean a full rewire?

Not automatically. Age alone is not a fault. What matters is the insulation resistance readings, the earthing arrangement and whether the cable is rubber or PVC sheathed. Plenty of 1980s installations only need a board change and a few remedials. We would rather test first and tell you the truth than quote a rewire by default.

I am a landlord — what report do I need?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report on the whole installation, renewed at the interval stated on the report. We issue it in the landlord's name, list any C1, C2 or FI codes separately from C3 advisories, and provide a fixed-price quote for remedial work so you can decide what is required and what is optional.

Do you notify building control, or do I?

We do, as part of the job, for any notifiable work such as a new circuit or a consumer unit replacement. You receive the notification reference with your certificate. You do not need to contact building control yourself, and there is no separate fee for the registration.

Can you work in a tenanted or occupied property?

Yes, and most of our work is. We agree access times in advance with whoever is living there, keep one route through the property clear, sheet and vacuum as we go, and leave the property safe and powered at the end of every day. We do not need keys unless you would rather we held them.

How long is a quote valid, and does anything change on site?

Quotes hold for sixty days. The scope is written line by line, so if something genuinely unexpected appears — a buried junction box, an unmarked circuit, asbestos-backed board — we stop, show you, and price the extra work separately before continuing. Nothing is added to the final invoice that you have not seen first.

Tell us what
the job looks like

A sentence or two is enough to start. If you know the make of the board or roughly when the property was last wired, include it — it saves a phone call.
